The California Gold Ribbon Schools Award was created to honor schools that have made gains in implementing the academic content and performance standards adopted by the State Board of Education. The 2016 Elementary Gold Ribbon Schools as well as the 2016 Exemplary Program recipients were honored June 2016.
Nearly 6,000 elementary schools were eligible to apply this year. Westpark Elementary applied and was the proud recipient of the Elementary Gold Ribbon Award as well as the recipient of the 2016 Exemplary Academic Achieving School Award. Westpark Elementary was 1 of 11 schools to receive both of these awards out of all of Kern County Schools.
"These schools shine as a bright beacon for others, putting forth an exemplary effort to ensure that every student is ready for 21st century college and career." Tom Torlakson, State Schools Chief.
